Art Journal Explorations with Jessica Olberz Singleton 3/7 Saturday 10-1pm

Art Journal Explorations is an all-levels, process-focused workshop where you’ll begin a watercolor art journal or continue working in one you already have. This class welcomes both total beginners and those with more experience. No drawing skills are required.

Each 3-hour session explores a different theme, such as warm and cool color relationships, playing with inks, abstract florals, or collaborative creation. We’ll begin multiple pieces during class. Some may be finished on the spot, while others become starting points to continue at home, supporting an ongoing art journaling practice beyond the workshop.

This is a multimedia class, anchored in watercolor but often incorporating acrylic, collage, pen, and other materials. We’ll work primarily in an abstract way, focusing on curiosity, experimentation, and process rather than outcomes.

Art Journal Explorations is offered every month or two. While the format remains the same, the themes and materials change each time, so no two sessions are alike. Students are welcome to attend once or return regularly as a way to build consistency, confidence, and personal language within their art journals.

Working in an art journal gives us permission to paint for ourselves, free from expectations, while the journal itself becomes a tangible record of learning, experimentation, and creative expression over time.

Materials: Please bring your own art journal to class. A watercolor journal such as the Bee Creative Watercolor Art Journal (cold press, 180 lb. paper, 8” × 8” or larger) is recommended. If you’re unable to find a watercolor journal, a mixed media art journal is a good alternative. All other art materials will be provided.
